WEDDINGS

Who can be married at Ss Peter and John’s?
  • We try to follow the example Jesus set, by not turning people away. Any couple that seeks to follow the ideals set forth in the marriage services of the Episcopal Church can be married at Ss Peter and John’s. At least one of the individuals must be a baptized Christian. Questions concerning this can be addressed by Fr. John Rohde.
  • We understand marriage to be a sacrament, and because of that it requires preparation. In order to give it the attention it demands, we ask that the couples meet with Fr. John Rohde prior to the wedding date at least 4-6 hours (on multiple occasions if needed) to set intentions and walk with clarity into matrimony.
  • We understand that the road is winding, and that some have experienced divorced. We welcome the opportunity to support you in taking the next steps in your journey. Please contact Fr. John Rohde to discuss what those steps will be.
When and who to contact?
  • While we are open to discussing your wedding at anytime, we encourage you to contact us at least 3 months prior to your desired wedding date.  You can contact us through your general email or by phone to confirm your date at secretary@saintspeterandjohn.org or 315.252.5721.
Marriage License
  • Please make sure that you obtain a Marriage License at least 48 hours before the ceremony. It must be brought with you at the time of your rehearsal. Traditionally, the Best Man and Maid of Honor sign the license, but it is up to the couple to choose their witnesses.
  • Photographer/s and Wedding Planners contact our priest for instructions and  responsibilities.
Aisle Runners, Bird Seed, Petals, etc.
  • Due to liability concerns and safety of our guests, the use of aisle runners, petals,  and rice, are not permitted on the church property. Bird seed may be used with prior approval of clergy.  We recommend blowing bubbles, waving ribbons, and hugs and kisses are great alternative options. If you have another idea, please feel free to pass it by our Priest or Sexton.
  • No nails or tacks on walls or furniture. Any decorations may be done the day of the wedding and it is your responsibility to remove them after that ceremony.  If the use of candles is desired, please consult with the Priest or Sexton ahead of time to insure they are within code.
Music
  • We have a list of organists who are available to play for weddings.  If any particular or unusual pieces are requested, you must discuss this with the organist in advance.                         .
Photography
  • The taking of photos and videos is encouraged! We would suggest that photographers check with Fr. John Rohde before the service begins regarding which areas to avoid and expectations.  during the service.

Rehearsal
  • You will plan the date and time with Fr. John Rohde and the Wedding Planner (if applicable). You will be responsible for notifying everyone in the wedding party.

Decorations
  • You may decorate the church, and we encourage it, but please do not use nails or tacks on walls or furniture. Any decorations may be done the day of the wedding and it is your responsibility to remove them after that ceremony.  If the use of candles is desired, please consult with the Priest or Sexton ahead of time to insure they are within code.
